Pregnancy in Shows
Movies aren’t the only ones containing pregnancy and baby goodies! Let’s take a break from films about pregnancy and take a gander down the show road!
1. Full House: Season 5 ⎢ Episodes 9 & 10: Happy Birthday Babies Part 1 & 2
Where to Watch: Hulu, Max
I have owned every season of Full House on DVD since I was 16.
It’s always been one of my favorite shows, and let’s face it, there is a good chance we all wanted to have a marriage like Becky and Jesse’s!
One of my favorite episodes has always been the 2 part episodes where she goes into labor and gives birth to her two twin boys!
It’s during Michelle’s 5th birthday party when Becky goes into labor, leaving everyone scrambling during Michelle’s party to get to the hospital!
At one point, leaving all the kids alone in the living room with a birthday cake!
We all know what happens at that point!
Meanwhile, unbeknownst to Jesse, who thinks he is experiencing stomach pains from Joey’s Chili dinner, he finds out he needs his appendix out at the hospital!
It always cracks me up when Jesse goes:
“Becky is here having the twins so I thought heck! While I’m here why don’t I get my appendix out.”
He does make it back in time from his surgery to see the birth of his boys, but not without being doped up on pain medication, leaving him in a goofy, drunken stupor state while singing to Becky as she’s pushing “You’re Having My Baby ” by Paul Anka.
It is a funny, heartwarming, and sweet episode, and it always left me with warm fuzzies whenever I watched it, even long before I was pregnant.
When they all sing “Happy Birthday” to the twins for the first time in the hospital, it will make you cry tears of joy, no joke.
Full House is one of the sugariest shows, especially this episode!
2. Golden Girls: Season 6 ⎜Episode 1: Blanche Delivers
Where to Watch: Hulu
Golden Girls has always been my number-one show.
It is one of the best-written comedies/sitcoms ever to grace Hollywood, and I am eternally grateful.
Earlier in a previous season, Blanche’s daughter Rebecca announced she was getting artificially inseminated.
This took a while for Blanche to accept, but she eventually came around and was excited for her daughter and a new grand-baby.
In this episode, her daughter comes to Miami to give birth to her baby girl and wants to do it naturally.
Of course, Blanche, being Blanche, was initially very closed-minded about the idea and took some convincing.
This episode captures the relational issues we can have with our mothers and how scary it is to become a mother yourself.
There is genuinely nothing more feel-good than Golden Girls.
3. Call The Midwife
Where to Watch: Netflix, Prime Video
I started watching Season one shortly before I got pregnant!
I watched the whole series throughout my pregnancy.
The story takes place in 1950s England, where Midwives, Doctors, and Nuns help the local women deliver their babies and provide healthcare.
It goes over all the typical and atypical relational, pregnancy, and baby issues, and they help these women during the most trying times of their lives.
Most of these women live in poverty, and you see how strong they were considering how little they had and how hard it was!
In one episode, a mother was delivering her 10th child, and they set up a little bed in one of their dresser drawers!
It just goes to show that we can do this.
We are strong women who can take on life’s most challenging task, birthing and raising our children.
There is so much excellent writing and character development, and they tackle many social issues around women’s health.
I strongly suggest you and your partner watch this.
